Conference Description:

Join us August 3rd for our First Wednesday Webinar Climate Change from a Forester’s Perspective with CALFIRE’s Henry Herrera. He will be discussing how climate change affects forest health and wildfires. As a bonus, you’ll walk away with the terminology of wildfires including how to say them in Spanish. Henry will talk about steps to take in finding a translator for your projects. We believe bridging the gap between languages could benefit fire response and management.

Instructor Bio:

In the summer of 2004, Henry Herrera began his forestry career with the San Bernardino National Forest working as a wildland firefighter while studying forestry at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. In 2005, Henry graduated from Cal Poly with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Natural Resources with a concentration in forest resources and urban forestry. Between 2004 and 2013 Henry worked in the San Bernardino, Cleveland and Sierra National Forests as a firefighter, forester, and special uses permit administrator. In 2014, Henry accepted a job as the San Bernardino Unit Forester for the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). Since May 2019, Henry has worked as CAL FIRE's Regional Urban Forester in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Henry's main experience has been with fuels/vegetation management (fire prevention/forest health), post-fire reforestation, environmental reviews, urban forestry, public information and working with youth from underserved communities to increase their access to education and careers. Henry is a native of the Southeast San Diego and resides in Menifee with his wife, son, and daughter. Henry is a Registered Professional Forester and Certified Arborist.
