This immersive 2-day learning experience, hosted at the historic cemetery and meaningful place of trees known as Cypress Lawn Arboretum, is designed as a welcome invitation for practicing climbing aborists into th world of competition climbing events!

Hopefully, experiencing CypressFest will help climbers feel more comfortable to go on and compete in the annual Western Chapter Tree Climbing Championship.  Please, come join our growing tradition at Cypress Lawn!  Our third annual CypressFest will feature the following programming:

Friday September 25th: This year’s Day 2 will feature 2 tracks:

  •  Education Track: An immersive learning track, featuring a trolley tour of the Arboretum’s living collection of heritage Monterey cypresses, a series of lectures inside the historic Abbey Chapel venue, and an afternoon of field sessions exploring the mechanics of tree support systems, as well as a demonstration of proactive habitat arboriculture techniques.
  • Competition Track: A “How to Compete” learning day focusing on the five events of every TCC: Aerial Rescue, Work Climb, Ascent, Belayed Speed Climb, and Throwline.  A breakdown of the ITCC rules book, scoring system, and judging criteria will also be reviewed.  Most importantly, an opportunity to witness seasoned competitors demonstrate each event in turn, and then have their support in a hands-on afternoon of event practice, out among the cypresses of the Arboretum living collection.

Saturday, September 26th: Cypress Lawn Arboretum's 3rd Annual Tree Climbing Competition!

Come join us for a weekend of learning and growing together in elevating the standard of climbing arboriculture, and embracing a fun, friendly competitive spirit! There are sponsorship opportunities. Click Here to learn more.
