Understanding Oaks of the Southwest and their Applications to Future Landscapes
Presented By: Adam Black
Director of Horticulture and Plant Conservation
Bartlett Tree Research Labs and Arboretum
Summary:
Oaks of the southwestern US are often presumed to have great potential as adaptable tree species for future resilient urban landscapes in other parts of the country. Being a very diverse genus with complex genetics and site preferences, there is a wealth of research necessary to first understand their taxonomy, their context in the local ecology, conservation status and biogeography along with tolerances to varying cultural conditions. This presentation will summarize some of the current knowledge and ongoing research into these areas in attempt to demystify this enigmatic group of trees.
