Tree Identification

we will introduce approximately 50 trees found on the campus of California State University, Chico. We will talk about the key characteristics of their leaves, bark and reproductive structures (cones or flowers). We will also provide information about the tree biology, pruning and urban forest management. We will walk around the campus and identify trees, collect specimens, and bring them back to the lab for examination and review. Herbarium specimens will also be available. Worksheets and tree identification resources will also be provided.

Linnea Hanson is a retired botanist from the Plumas National Forest who also taught General Botany and Horticultural Plant Identification at Shasta College. Linnea received her MA in Biology from California State University, Sacramento. She is currently the President of Northern California Botanists and is a board member of Friends of the Chico State Herbarium.

Emily Meigs Doe has recently taught Ornamental Plant Identification at Butte College and has worked as a field botanist for the Plumas and Mendocino National Forests. Emily received her BA in Biology from Chico State and has also been a Herbarium Assistant at the Chico State Herbarium.

This workshop will meet  from 9 AM to 4 PM in Holt Hall room 129 at CSU, Chico. The plant walk will be on the CSU Chico campus.
