Communities are increasingly finding value in the interface of urban and open space areas. Whether they are manmade or protected native plantings, they often involve urban foresters and arborists. As opportunities arise to increase canopy cover, we are given new sets of challenges and values that may enable us to add to the communities’ urban forest. This program will present us with changing concepts and approaches to interface area management with the potential to maximize the value of trees.

General Conference Program

Roots, Shoots and Research - May 1 to 4, 2008

The conference really gets into gear Friday with our terrific program focusing on Roots, Shoots, & Research! Speakers such as Jim Clark, Nelda Matheny, Ed Gilman, Joe Murray, David Kelley, Gordon Mann, Leonard Dunn, Gary Watson, Ted Sweicki, Susan Frankel, and Ian Wilson will capture our attention for two full days. Friday afternoon will include break-out sessions for Utility Arborists. We then have a chance to stretch our legs as we wrap up Sunday with a field day visit to San José State, or hop on a luxury bus ride with former San Jose City Arborist Mark Beaudoin as we take a journey of Trees and People. This “exceptional tree tour" will travel through eight incredible sites that demonstrate cultural differences in tree care.

This year, all events are included in your full-conference registration, including: opening ceremony and reception, educational sessions, awards celebration luncheon with exhibitors, kkeynote luncheon with exhibitors featuring Dr. Roger Funk, Davey Resource Group speaking on “The Future of Arboriculture: Where Research is Growing Our Industry,” banquet and casino night and full access to the trade show during the entire conference.
